INVITATION TO JAN 30, 2016 SOCAL/NORCAL JOINT MEETING

Gil Garcia, President of Southern California Sister Cites International invites sister city programs to send a delegation to the Southern California Sister Cities (SoCal) and Northern California Sister Cities (NorCal) Chapters of Sister Cities International joint meeting that will take place at the historic Mission San Miguel, 775 Mission St. San Miguel CA (7 miles north of Paso Robles on Highway 10)

The SoCal/NorCal Chapters of Sister Cities International joint meeting on January 30, 2016, will be the Inaugural Meeting for the 60th Anniversary of Sister Cities International. It is also the first time in 20 years that the two groups have held a joint meeting.

The keynote speaker for the meeting will be the Honorable Norman Mineta former Mayor of San Jose. Mr. Mineta also served 25 years in Congress, served as Secretary of Commerce in President Clintonʼs Cabinet and Secretary of Transportation under President George W. Bush. He is a former SCI Board Member and currently is a member of the SCI Honorary Board. During World War II, Mr. Mineta, an American of Japanese ancestry, along with his family was forced into an Internment Camp.

In attendance at the meeting will be SCI Chairman, Bill Boerum of Sonoma, the President/CEO of SCI, Mary Kane, SCI Vice President/Chairman Elect, Tim Quigley of San Jose, and the State Representatives of SoCal and NorCal. The Board of Directors of SoCal and NorCal will be in attendance along with many representatives of the local sister city programs. Gil Garcia, President of SoCal and Bill Hinkle, President of NorCal will preside over the meeting.

The agenda will include a leadership panel on the importance of Sister Cities led by SCI Chairman, Bill Boerum; presentations of sister city programs with Mexican/Latino focus and a presentation with a Pacific Rim focus and the announcement of the CA Japanese Sister City Association.

You will not want to miss this opportunity to network with the representatives of the many CA sister city programs. On Friday, January 29 there will be a reception and dinner for those who arrive early. More details will follow shortly. If enough Santa Barbara Sister City members sign up we can rent a van or a bus and plan wine tasting tour and visit historic sites and restaurant before of after the short conference.
