August 10, 2014 Nagoya Day (55-year celebration of Los Angeles – Nagoya Sister City Relations at The Grove)

 

On August 10, 2014, the Los Angeles Nagoya Sister City Affiliation (LANSCA) and the city of Nagoya commemorated the 55th anniversary of Los Angeles and Nagoya’s sister city partnership. Nagoya Day took place at The Grove, a high-profile outdoor shopping mall in central Los Angeles. Officiated by Nagoya Mayor Takashi Kawamura and Los Angeles City Councilmember Tom LaBonge, and emceed by ABC7 Eyewitness News co-anchor David Ono, cultural activities entertained the crowd, including a samurai sword demonstration, a taiko [drum] performance, Japanese pop music and a cosplay contest produced by SoCal Sister Cities First Vice-President Anthony Al-Jamie and sponsored by Tokyo Journal magazine. The Nagoya Citizens Association introduced children to traditional Japanese arts, crafts and kimono and visitors were able to sample Japanese cuisine, including numerous Nagoya specialties.
